BASTIAN BENJAMIN - ELIXIR

Elixir is Bastiaan’s second solo album. Released at Who’s Susan on the 24th of May.

Step into the barren desert where shifting sands mark your journey. The scenery transforms before your eyes, transporting you to a mysterious valley where reality blurs with illusion. As you navigate this dreamscape, gradually acclimatizing to the chaos, you feel like a shadow evaporating into mist. There’s an etiquette to this madness. You might think you understand it, yet habits from the outside world trick you into a downward spiral. The tension is building. You have to let go of the straps. The valley allows you to glide from one horizon to the next. The sun is glistening on the water, working its hypnotic magic. You lose track of time, and the boundaries between comfort and discomfort blur.

Transitioning between realities becomes effortless. From dusky swamps to abandoned towns, from frozen lakes to lava plains. The landscape grows increasingly saturated, the sun intensifying its heat, while towns emit an unpleasant smell, and plants become withered. In the absence of sunlight, darkness envelops everything in pitch blackness.

Surprisingly, this darkness provides a much-needed break. The transitions between dreamscapes keeps accelerating relentlessly. You’re starting to yearn for peace of mind. The world has surpassed a threshold of which there’s nothing but infinity left. You’re starting to feel
homesick and you decide to get back in your head. It feels like the world has crossed a point of no return, leaving behind only infinite possibilities. Memories flood back rapidly, piecing together the puzzle of your past self. The mind is a strange place. One may ponder, reflect, and write endlessly, yet it remains perpetually enigmatic, surpassing even the strangest fiction. It serves as both the source of confusion and clarity. Upon returning from this journey, what strikes most is the realization that reality is more uncanny than any imagined fantasy.

Reality proves to be both more painful and unpredictable than any dimension from which you originated in the valley. Yet, it also holds a beauty and reward unparalleled. Reality, with all its chaos and beauty, surpasses even the wildest dreams of the mind.
